Empowering Women's Health through Science

Laura is a pioneering citizen science project dedicated to understanding and improving women's vaginal health in Peru. Inspired by the legacy of Laura Esther Rodríguez Dulanto, Peru's first female medical doctor, our mission is to break taboos, educate, and empower women across the country.

About Us

In Laura, we believe in the power of interdisciplinary collaboration. Together, through science, health, and passion, we work hand in hand to unlock the secrets of vaginal microbiota and advance women’s health.

Is for this reason that Laura is driven by a diverse and dedicated group of researchers from leading universities in Peru and Belgium. Our team includes biologists, doctors, nurses, and professionals from various health sciences, social sciences, and data science fields, each bringing their expertise to achieve our mission.

Studies

In late 2021, the Laura project started in Lima, Iquitos, and Arequipa to study the microorganisms in the female reproductive tract. We discovered that Peruvian women have fewer lactobacilli compared to European women. Our health survey also revealed key insights on HPV, menstrual cycles, and self-medication.

Now, we're launching Laura 2.0, with two phases, and beginning studies on the impact of menstrual products on the vaginal microbiome.
We're seeking xx women to join our studies. Interested?

Learn about our studies

Laura is an innovative project in Peru dedicated to the detailed mapping of the vaginal microbiota, especially lactobacilli, to reveal its crucial impact on women's health and empower not only those who participate but all, with scientific knowledge that we can apply to our well-being.
